Abbeyfield House is an aged care hostel in Mortlake Western Victoria. It is community owned and run by the Abbeyfield Society (Mortlake) Inc. The original hostel of 15 rooms was opened in 1990 and incorporated the old shire office (top left). In 2002 a 15 bed extension was added resulting in a modern state of the art 30 bed hostel. The exterior blends easily into the streetscape with its homelike cottage appearance (top middle). Well maintained gardens atriums and courtyards provide a pleasant outlook for residents and visitors from every angle (top right). Each room offers an ultra modern ensuite bathroom built in robe heating telephone and TV points and emergency call system. Residents are invited to furnish their room with treasured pieces of furniture paintings and books to add to an atmosphere which is already homely and welcoming. All rooms have lockable storage space for residents' private belongings and doors which open to communal gardens and living areas. Communal areas within the house provide relaxed settings where residents can enjoy the company of others or a place to retreat in peace and quiet.
