John Curtin is responsive community owned non-profit Home providing permanent and respite care to older citizens. It was developed through the vision of the people of Creswick and surrounding districts in recognising a need for residential aged care in the area. John Curtin is set in beautiful cottage gardens in the delightful rural town of Creswick only 20 minutes drive from the large regional city of Ballarat and the tourist centre of Daylesford. We offer residential and respite care that can be tailored to meet your or your loved-one's specific needs and aspirations. Our services actively support your right to lifestyle choices and independence. The John Curtin Memorial Hostel (now John Curtin Aged Care) was named after John Curtin Prime Minister of Australia from 1941 to 1945 who was born in Creswick. The building's foundation stone was laid on the sixth of January 1985 which would have been John Curtin's 100th birthday. There are two distinct units in the Home' Curtin and Peacock. Curtin Unit is a forty-seven permanent and one respite bed Ageing in Place care environment for residents who do not need a specialised secure environment. Originally built as a hostel it provides a large central dining room and four wings of single rooms each with a private en-suite. Peacock Unit is fully enclosed and has keypad entry to provide security for those at risk of wandering. Peacock has sixteen permanent places and one respite place. Independent Living Units Co-located with the Home are seventeen two bedroom Units which provide independent living close to support services. Residents of the units can access all community care services according to their individual needs. This includes council HACC services meals on wheels and district nursing (John Curtin does not provide these). All residents are encouraged to participate according to personal choice in a wide range of social or recreational activities within the Home or the community. John Curtin provides maintenance security waste disposal and general landscaping.
